TEN Study: Methodology
Survey of CP Australia Clients, Costs and Waiting Lists
The purpose of the survey is to profile the clients (and people ‘waiting’), their needs, treatments and equipment, and the decision criteria of therapists and CP Australia professionals about the level and priorities of needs. This will enable both quantitative and qualitative analysis and the gathering of case profiles. Survey contents will be finalised after the literature review, preliminary examination of records of CP Australia bodies, and overview of available national data sources.
Focus Groups and Consultation Strategies
National focus groups and other consultation strategies including internet or email for people with CP, their families and service providers, researchers and other significant stakeholders will be an integral part of the project’s methodology.

Data Analysis of National Data Sets
Analysis of national population surveys on disability and health, on questions agreed after initial work would be designed to relate population survey concepts to the objectives of the study – quantifying met, partially met and unmet need and the number of people who might benefit from therapy, in terms of improved individual functioning and participation, and in terms of reduced social costs of disability. A first step is to review available data sources including the national populations surveys for their usefulness.
Development and Costing ‘Archetypal Cases’ and Total Needs
A major component of the study that will need careful design is to assign costs to the estimates of partially met and unmet need. This will be decided after the survey when it will be established what type of costs data are already available from CP Australia records and management processes, and other sources.
